Some of the responsibilities of a radio announcer was to appear at public events representing the Radio/TV Station. The CJOC-AM DeeJays took part in the 1974 Fire Hose Coupling Competition held in Taber, Alberta. The biggest surprise was that the CJOC announcers came in first.

The competition was more difficult than one could imagine. The fire hoses were heavy and became almost impossible to handle once they were filled with water.

Rudy DeBour joined CJOC -AM after being on air at CJPR Blairmore, a sister radio station. Kevin McKanna left CJOC AM to do an on-air show at CKY Winnipeg. He became Executive Vice President of Rogers Broadcasting overseeing 14 radio stations (AB and Manitoba-Now retired from radio)

Gord Whitehead left CJOC to do afternoon drive at CJCA, Edmonton (1976-1993) and then to 630 CHED, Edmonton when it became a talk radio station (now retired).

Ken Connors left to do mid-mornings at CJME-AM Regina, early 1975, then to 6:30 CHED Edmonton and back to CFGP Grande Prairie.
