1090 CHEC Lethbridge - CKTA Taber

In May of 1974, Southern Alberta Broadcasting Ltd which was owner of CHEC Radio was granted a license for a new radio station 1570 CKTA in Taber. The 5,000 watt radio station signed on in October of 1974. Later in1987 Jim Elliott (CHEC/CJOC/CJCA) was the general manager of both stations. In the year 2000 CKTA was replaced by CHHK 93.3 "The Hawk" with Classic Adult Rock format and was bought out by the Jim Pattison Industries Ltd and eventually changes their call letters to CJBZ-FM "B-93".

CKTA 1570 Taber was on the air in 1974 and one of the more well known newsmen at that time was Vern Koop. Vern later became assistant news director in 1991 at CHQR in Calgary, Alberta.

Brent Seely also did the sports on CKTA. Brent Seely grew up in Lethbridge spending a total of 41 years in radio and television. He was also Sports Director for CJOC Radio and CJLH - TV with the latter part being manager of a number of radio stations.

Jim Elliot became General Manager of 1090 CHEC and CKTA Taber in 1987.
