At Winagami Lake Provincial Park, birdhouses were made for the refugees, the largest swallow in North America - Purple Martins. The Winagami Lake colony is the most northwestern Purple Martin Colony in the world. The Martin House was erected in 1990 by Richard Kemy of High Prairie. The Purple Martins feed on flying insects like flying ants, moths and mayflies. It is located not far from the boat launch area at Winagaimi Lake, Alberta.
