In the fall of 1971, Ken Chernuka (Connors) moved from Rycroft, Alberta to Calgary, Alberta to attend the Radio, Television and Stage Arts program at SAIT.

It was only a few months later when Bob Robertson, program director of CKXL Radio Station, hired Ken to do the weekend shifts and then later to cover the midnight show for 3 months while announcers took their holidays. That is when Ken started using the last name Connors. (the name Chernuka was not allowed to be used on-air)
