1140 CKXL In the fall of 1971, Ken Chernuka (Connors) moved from Rycroft, Alberta to Calgary, Alberta to attend the Radio, Television and Stage Arts program at SAIT. It was only a few months later when Bob Robertson, program director of CKXL Radio Station, hired Ken to do the weekend shifts and then later to cover the midnight show for 3 months while announcers took their holidays. That is when Ken started using the last name Connors. (the name Chernuka was not allowed to be used on-air)
During that period, Ken Connors attended college from 9am to 4pm, slept from 5pm to 10pm, was on CKXL from Midnight to 6am, then he would sleep from 6:30 to 8am, then go back to college. |
