Grande Prairie,

At the moment everyone heard the news that Terry Fox had died, (1980) Ken Connors ran from the CFGP control room to talk to Jack Soars. On his way he saw Chris Bromley, creative writer, who said. "Did you hear the news??". Chris and Ken both had the same idea of doing a Radio-Thon".

They were able to convince Jack Soars and Gord Pearcy to stop the music and open the phone lines to continue with the young Marathon runners goal to raise money for cancer. The radio-thon started at 1pm Saturday September 6th and a total of $1000 was donated in the first five minutes.

A number of announcers plus others volunteers gave up their time to help take the pledges and do the live commentary. Ken Connors spent all the 44 hours of the CFGP Radio-Thon on air.
