GRANDE PRAIRIE MAP OF THE CITY Grande Prairie is the largest city in northwest Alberta. Many visitors from British Columbia come to Grande Prairie because there is no provincial sales tax.
Heading north out of Grande Prairie takes you to the "4 Mile Corner". It is the junction of Highway 2 that continues north to Clairmont,Sexsmith and the communities beyond. Also Highway 43 which goes east that takes you Valleyview and eventually to Edmonton. Most recently a partial clover leaf was built at this intersection.

Shopping:
The major shopping areas include the downtown area of Grande Prairie which is located on 100 Avenue and 100 Street. Further north on 100 Street takes you to the Prairie Mall and other shopping. Of course the newest area for shopping is on the west side of Grande Prairie at the Gateway Power Centre on 100 Avenue. The first phase of the Gateway Power Centre began in the spring of 1996 on the 151 acre of land. Parking: Metered parking is available downtown Monday through Friday. Plenty of free parking through-out the city. Transportation: Full public transit system operates within the city. The Grande Prairie Airport is located a few km west of the city along Highway 43. Four airlines provide regular flights daily as well as charter flights are available. Alberta Railnet provides rail service to and from Grande Prairie. Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce: There are approximately 1000 members which makes it the third largest Chamber in the province. |
